New York Islanders Trade Targets for Every NHL Team

Winnipeg Jets
This team is shifting from the young Atlanta core that was left over, to the new Jets drafted core of Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine.
Wheeler has two more years before he hits free agency on a deal that costs the cap $5.6 million. In his last two seasons, he’s put up 152 points. At 6’5″ 225 lbs, he’s an outstanding power forward.
There’s just a catch. He has a modified no-trade clause, which according to Cap Friendly means he can submit a lit of 14 teams he doesn’t want to be traded to. How much do you want to bet the Isle don’t make the cut for the other 16?
It’s possible former Islanders first round bust and now Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff asks his to waive that, or he gets lucky and the Isles make the sweet 16. It’s possible.
Garth could sell Long Islands fantastic and docile living conditions. He could have players address any concerns Wheeler might, unfairly, cary regarding travel to and from games. And best of all. Wheeler would get a chance to play with John Tavares and his old teammate Andrew Ladd!
It’s a pretty good deal going the Jets way. They get a guaranteed 40 point player in Brock Nelson. They get a dynamic, young, and cheap second line center in Mathew Barzal. And they even get to restock the prospect cupboard when Kyle Connor makes the jump to the NHL next season.
It’s win-win! Blake just needs to do his part and put the Isles on the “I’m willing to go here” part of his list to Chveldayoff.

After all this, I’m left with the overwhelming sensation that Garth Snow will make a trade, but isn’t going to be for anything nearly as grandiose as we all think it should be. There are a few trades in this list that are long shots, sure, but others like Duchene and Eberle seem like they’re too good to pass up.
Making the playoffs has to be prime objective number one for the 2017-18 season. I just don’t see the Isles getting there without making a trade this offseason.
