New York Islanders: Four Teams Who Need A First Round Pick

With the 2017 NHL draft class being touted as one of the weakest in recent years, the New York Islanders have to wonder if it’s a good idea to deal that number 15 pick to someone who needs it more.
The New York Islanders prospect pool is pretty loaded with decent talent through every single position. Love him or hate him, but you can’t deny that Garth did a good job stocking the Islanders prospects cupboard.
His player development track record, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired.
Between the pipes, they have Linus Soderstrom and Ilya Sorokin to look forward to in the next few years.
On defense, Devon Toews made a huge impact in the AHL last season, as did Ryan Pulock. Although the latter of the two should have been playing in the NHL. Not to mention Parker Wotherspoon and Mitchel Vande Sompel killing it in juniors.
Upfront Joshua Ho-Sang and Mathew Barzal should be set to join Anthony Beauvillier on the Isles active roster in 2017-18. While Michael Dal Colle and Kieffer Bellows represent the second wave of goalscoring youngsters.
So with a weak draft coming up, it’s a smart move for New York Islanders GM Garth Snow to trade that 15th overall pick to a team that could actually use it.
