No. 5: The Return of Ryan Strome 11/7/2017 vs Edmonton Oilers

The highlight of this week so far has been the Strome-Eberle trade. The New York Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers swapped forwards which sent the former fifth overall pick in 2011 from the Isles to the Oilers.

Ryan Strome has spent all of his four-year NHL career, with the Islanders in which he put up 126 points for the blue and orange. Sure he wasn’t a prolific goalscorer but has been part of the organization for a significant amount of time.

He was two years off from that 50 point season that every Isles fan hoped he could get back too. But after two years it doesn’t seem like that was possible.

Strome played better under new Head Coach Doug Weight, but it still wasn’t what we, and the organization hoped he would become as an NHL.

The New York Islanders gave him that two-year $5 million deal to show them what kind of player he was. By flipping him to Edmonton you have to imagine that the Islanders made up their mind as to what type of player he is.

November 7th will be Strome’s first game back to Barclay’s Center in a different blue and orange jersey. Look out for a touching tribute for Strome highlighting some of his memorable moments with the Isles.
