New York Islanders Players Deserving of All-Star Metro Captain Honour

Mathew Barzal
This kid has been everything this team has needed since drafting John Tavares first overall in 2009. He’s the perfect compliment to Tavares on the top line.
Barzal gives the New York Islanders that 1-2 punch combination. Teams can shut down Tavares but they still have to deal with Barzal. Or vice-versa. They just won’t be able to keep both lines down.
Not only has Barzal been that ‘X’ factor for the Islanders, he’s the top scoring rookie in the league with 26 points in 27 games. Only Vancouver’s Brock Boeser is keeping pace with 25 points in 25 games.
The Isles haven’t had a rookie be this prolific since at this point of the seasons since Pat LaFontaine

Why He Deserves To Go
For all the reasons listed above. Mathew Barzal has been lights out for not only the New York Islanders but he’s been one of the top attractions in the NHL.
He doesn’t deserve this as some ceremonial nod to his perseverance like Josh Bailey, he doesn’t deserve this as part of some wider campaign to get attention like Nick Leddy. Mat Barzal just flat out deserves it because of his level of play has All-Star level.
