The New York Islanders took to their home ice trying to end their losing streak, they did just that beating the Capitals 3-1.

After three losses on the road, the New York Islanders were trying to get back to their winning ways on their home ice. It was Jaroslav Halak going up against Brayden Holtby at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Brock Nelson got the scoring going early with a goal just 2:36 into the game. Here’s what it looked like:

It was Brock Nelson’s ninth goal of the season. Brock’s beginning to heat up with three goals in the last five games.

Shortly after, controversy began to brew at the Barc. It appeared like Anders Lee gave the Isles a 2-0 lead but the refs soon debunked that. Take a look for yourself, goal or not?

Doug Weight challenged the call but the refs did not overturn it after further review. If you want more details on that you can check out Mitch’s explanation here.

After one period of play, it was 1-0.

Just 36 seconds into the second Andrew Ladd scored his eighth of the season. The Isles jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second but they weren’t done there. Only 58 seconds later John Tavares made it a 3-0 game.

Holtby’s day was done after 21:34 of gameplay and the Isles were up by three goals.

Jaroslav Halak was impressive tonight for the Islanders he stopped 31-of-32 shots on goal allowed only Dmitry Orlov to score in the third period. Halak’s domination over the Capitals continued tonight.
