With Johnny Boychuk and Calvin de Haan on the shelf, the New York Islanders need another defenseman to help carry the load.

It can’t be stressed enough how important Calvin de Haan and Johnny Boychuk are to the New York Islanders. Losing two of your three top-3 defensemen is never good. So far the Islanders called up Sebastian Aho to be a solution.

Although Aho is a promising prospect, who I like a great deal, the Islanders need another established NHL caliber defenseman. By no means can they keep running Dennis Seidenberg out there on a nightly basis.

I mean just look at this play from last night:

Seidenberg has struggled mightily this year, and it’d be a disservice to the team and fans to squander an opportunity at the playoffs. If the Islanders don’t address this new need for a d-man they’ll be in big trouble.

They’re barely holding on to the final Wild Card spot to begin with and now with a rundown, and inexperienced defensive core there’s almost no way the Islanders can hang on to a playoff position with their current personnel.
