OTTAWA, ON – OCTOBER 17: Johnny Oduya /

Option C: Johnny Oduya

Johnny Oduya is a 35-year old veteran who has seen a lot of playoff time in his days with the Blackhawks. He’s played 106 games in the playoffs in his career and has taken home two Cups in his day.

The veteran is currently playing for the lowly Ottawa Senators who have no shot at the playoffs. Would the Senators look to gain some assets off an expiring $1 million contract?

If they were smart they would. Here’s my proposal to get Erik Karlsson’s partner over here:

The Isles nab a top-four d-man that can help them stay afloat this season by giving up a defensive prospect (blocked by Pulock, Toews, Aho, Vande Sample and Salo) and a late round pick. I’d make this trade any day of the week.

Odyua isn’t going to put up a ton of points, he has just five so far this year, but he’s a solid defender still and has a ton of experience in the playoffs.

Pairings W/O Boychuk

Leddy – Pulock

Pelech – Oduya

Aho – Mayfield/Hickey

Defense is a desperate need for the Islanders right now and any of these three guys mentioned would be an upgrade over what they’re currently running out there. Garth Snow and company can’t sit back and watch the sub-par defensive product any longer.
