New Years Resolution 1: Have a Better 3rd Line
Going into the season the Islanders looked like they’d have three really solid lines to work with. The top-2 lines have exceeded anyone’s expectations, but the third unit has been severely underwhelming.
Josh Ho-Sang has sadly only played 22 games with the Islanders this year. He has 12 points in those games, but the organization believes he needs more time to develop defensively so they sent him back down.
Anthony Beauvillier has played in 30 games but he only has seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) on the season. Then there’s Brock Nelson, the former perennial 40 point player is on pace for a 26 point season.
The third line play has clearly been atrocious, and neither Alan Quine, Shane Prince or Steve Bernier have added anything to it when they get the nod. If you want to save the third line you have to add more offense to it.
The easiest solution is recalling Josh Ho-Sang who has 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 12 games in the AHL. Nelson and Ho-Sang showed some chemistry early on in the season when Nelson had five goals in the first 10 games.
This is probably the easiest problem to fix, which leads me to my next resolution:
