NEW YORK, NEW YORK – DECEMBER 16: John Tavares /

John Tavares 3.89 Game Score

Date: October 24th, 2017

The New York Islanders were welcoming the 0-7-1 Arizona Coyotes to the Barclays Center. The Isles were expected to win the game, comfortably. But the Coyotes exploited an ongoing weakness of the Islanders.

Their inability to play well in the first period.

The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead out of the first period as they outshot the Isles 14-6 through the first 20. This was the Coyotes. Let me write it again. They were 0-7-1. The ‘Yotes hadn’t won through their first eight games. They were absolutely terrrrrible.

How could the Islanders be losing to this team?

And then John Tavares kicked it into gear only John Tavares can cover. Just under four minutes into the second period and Tavares put in his first of the night to tie the game.

Tavares would add another two goals and an assist as the New York Islanders would win out 5-3. He had three shots, a 67% face-off win percentage, and a +1 Corsi-For rating. You name it Tavares did it.

The captain was a man possessed that night. And the New York Islanders escaped with the win. Giving the Islanders their first three-game winning streak of the season.
