With the NHL All-Star game this weekend, there’s a league-wide break for those that aren’t going. Here are five New York Islanders players that could use the break.

The New York Islanders go into the All-Star Beak two points out of the second spot of the Metropolitan Division. That’s right just two points separate them at seventh and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second spot. It’s been a tough uphill battle at this point, but they’re still right in the mix.

They’re battered and bruised and a little worse for wear. But with another 30+ games to play on the schedule the Islanders could (and should) very much make the playoffs this season. But to do so they’ll need the entire team playing their A-Game.

The offense is going to have to continue being one of the best in the league (currently ranked second), and the defense is going to have to step up to the level of the forward core. (The defense is the worst in the league by-the-way).

With that in mind, there are five players on the New York Islanders roster that could use the rest more than others. We’d love for John Tavares and Josh Bailey to get some rest, but the two are headed to Tampa Bat to represent the Isles.

Leaving us fewer names to consider as we make this list.
