NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 05: Jason Chimera /

Jason Chimera

If you thought Brock Nelson had it rough, Jason Chimera has given the Islanders nothing through the first 50 games of the season. Well, unless you put a $2.25 million value on veteran leadership that is.

Chimera was coming off a very solid first year with the Islanders. He put up 20 goals adding some nice depth scoring to the New York Islanders for a change.

In 2017-2018 that has all but gone away. He’s got just two goals on the year so far and he’s on pace to finish with just three on the season. The last time Chimera had three goals in a season it came in the lockout-shortened 2012-2013 season.

This would be new territory for Chimmer. At 38 years old we have to question if father time has finally caught up to Jason Chimera. So far this year it looks like it has but if he’d like another contract to play in the league at 39, he’s going to need a much bigger second half.

Last year, Chimera had nine goals after the 50 game mark, the Islanders could really use a repeat of that performance.
