NEW YORK, NY – DECEMBER 19: Mike Green

Thomas Greiss

After a solid first two-years with the New York Islanders, Thomas Greiss has struggled in the first year of his new contract.

His save percentage is just .886, the lowest of his career. While his goals against average isn’t too pretty either as it’s sitting at 3.89 the first time it’s been that high in his entire career.

Heading into this year it was assumed Greiss would get more of the work as he’s signed for two more years and Jaroslav Halak is on an expiring deal. But with his poor play in net it’s been impossible to justify him getting playing time.

He’s played just two games since the calendar flipped to 2018. Greiss needs a strong second half, not only for the sake of the Islanders playoff chances this year but the team’s confidence in him going forward.

Greiss should use this time to regroup and come back as strong as possible to win back trust. If he can get his play back to its median form they Isles would be in great shape.

The Devils are in a free-fall, the Rangers are looking to sell, it looks like the Islanders playoff chances are more realistic than we were lead onto believe. The ball’s in their court now.
