NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 01: Kevin Hayes /

Robin Lehner and Evander Kane

Robin Lehner, G- Age, 26. Height, 6-4. Weight, 245 lbs. Catches-Left

Contract- $4 million, RFA after 17/18 season.

Lehner has posted a .912 save percentage so far despite playing for the Sabres. He’s used to facing a lot of shots, so he’ll fit right in with the Islanders. They might even re-sign him…

Evander Kane, LW- Age, 26. Height, Weight, Shoots-Left

Contract- $5.25 million, UFA after 17-18 season.

Kane comes with well-documented baggage, but playing in his contract year he’s putting up big points. So far he has 16 goals and 20 assists. He’s an expensive rental for a playoff push.

Starting Point For Negotiations

Again, if you want to break it down…

For Kane…

Nikolai Kulemin, LW- The cooly-man is mostly here to clear cap room. They might re-sign him, he’s still an effective and versatile player.

Michael Dal Colle, LW- He was drafted top five, is that enough to make him a “top-prospect”?

2018 2nd round pick- becomes a 2018 1st rounder if Kane re-signs, which the Isles won’t be able to afford.

For Lehner…

Thomas Greiss, G- His career numbers show he’s better than he has played of late.

Robin Salo, D- The Islanders top pick from last year’s draft, he’s playing over in Finland’s Liiga.

2019 2nd round pick

Projected Lines

I’d hope that Lehner would step right in and take the starting job. Then again, the extra pressure might turn Halak into a biscuit blocking fiend since he seems to respond positively to pressure and big games.
