The New York Islanders put together a terrible effort last night against the Florida Panthers. Now, where do they turn?

Would you believe me if I said the New York Islanders had a chance to move into a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a win against a far inferior team? They certainly didn’t play like that was the case.

I’m not sure the Islanders showed up from their All-Star break. Last night at the Barclays I saw another terrible effort from the team in a huge game that could’ve got them over the hump.

Too many injuries, not enough depth and an overall poor constructed roster. Sure, there are good pieces and they aren’t too far off from being a very competitive team but it’s the inability to put any consistency together which is rather frustrating.

You can’t blame the goalie last night, nor really one player in particular. It’s a group effort. A continuation and acceptance of mediocrity if you will. One step forward, two steps back the official slogan of the 2017-2018 New York Islanders.

Opinion: Isles finish won’t determine Tavares’ decision

How the New York Islanders finish out this season will largely affect the course this franchise takes over the next few years.  But it will not affect John Tavares’ decision on whether to re-sign with the only NHL team he’s played for.

Editorials: Best and worst moments in the Capuano era

He was the New York Islanders bench boss for seven seasons. Only Al Arbour coached more games in franchise history than Capuano. Back in town with the Florida Panthers, here’s his best and worst as coach for the Isles.
