Option 3: Bill Guerin

As a player Bill Guerin is a two time Stanley Cup Champion. He won one as a player with the Devils and one with the Penguins. As an Assistant General Manager with the Penguins, he has two more to add to his collection.

Guerin was a player in the league from 1991-2010. In a career that spanned over 1,200 games he produced 856 points. He even made a quick stop on Long Island, playing with the Islanders for parts of two seasons.

Right after his playing career, he went to the Penguins front office. From 2011-2014 he was the Director of Player Development. Since June of 2014, he’s been assisting Penguins GM Jim Rutherford.

You want sustainable success? Look at the Pittsburgh Penguins. They’ve been in the playoffs each of the past 11 years and have three Stanley Cup championships in that span.

If you want to go with an outside hire, which may be smart, Guerin seems like the clear-cut choice. Everyone is looking for that next big thing in the NHL, and at only 47 years old he has a long executive career ahead of him.

We all know Garth Snow has to go, but very few come up with any answers as to who he should be replaced with. These three options would seem to make sense if and when the Islanders decide to do something.
