Cody Ceci | Ottawa Senators

Contract: $2.8 million /1 year, Production: 13 pts/55 games, Slot: Second Pair
Why We Want Him

The Ottawa Senators are going to be making some interesting discussion this season. They have little space on the cap and have to sign Mark Stone this year and Erik Karlsson next season.

They already shed Dion Phaneuf’s deal but still have very little space on the cap thanks to 36-years-old Marian Gaborik’s four years at $4.875 million each. Meaning Ceci and his expiring $2.8 million deal could be had.

Ceci is young and full of potential. With the slow year, he’s having the Islanders could get him a bit cheaper on the cap and fill in that Calvin de Haan role quite nicely.

Why We Don’t Want Him

A “slow” year might be an understatement. Sure in terms of points Ceci isn’t going to excel his career-high 26 points. It’s not just his production. Just look at his possession metrics. He’s got a 42.8% 5on5 CF%. Gross.

Players that have bad possession stats aren’t what the New York Islanders need right now. Cause they have a team full of defenders already giving them plenty of that.
