Luca Sbisa | Vegas Golden Knights

Contract: $3.6 million/1 year, Production: 10pts/24 games, Slot: Second Pair
Why We Want Him
He’s got a ton of NHL experience. Which sounds bad simply because we have guys like Jason Chimera and Dennis Seidenberg that have “tons of NHL experience” and that hasn’t been working out so well.

But Sbisa than the aforementioned Chimera and Seidenberg. Before the injuries, he put up just under half a point per game, and like much of the Golden Knights completely rejuvenated his NHL career.

Even though Vegas is clearly going to make the playoffs, they’ll still sell at the right price. A being out for most of the season with a lower-body injury and a left-hand injury maybe the Isles can get him on the cheap?

Why We Don’t Want Him
Well for starters he’s recovering from a hand surgery and could be out another 2-4 weeks. Why do the Islanders want to trade for a player that currently can’t play? The Islanders need help right now and they need help quick. Not in two weeks, not in two months. Now.

So unless Sbisa can be ready to play immediately this won’t work. Like at all.

There’s also the “sum of their parts” argument. The same one we used for Ben Lovejoy. If you take Luca Sbisa out of Vegas does he continue to play at the same level? Or is Sbisa only playing well thanks for being part of that Vegas nucleus?
