TJ Brodie | Calgary Flames

Contract: $4.465/3 years, Production: 26pts/57 games, Slot: Second Pair
Why We Want Him
TJ Brodie is a young, solid defender who plays a ton of games. Realistically everything the Islanders would want in a potential addition to the defensive core.

In 55 games he has 27 points (3 goals, 24 assists). For you possession guys out there, he has a 49.4 CF%.

Brodie is a perfect second pairing guy. In fact, he’s paired with former Islander Travis Hamonic on that second pair. If the Isles got Brodie in a deal they’d essentially have Calvin de Haan’s replacement for at least two and a half more years; he’s signed through 2019-2020 at $4.65 million per year.

Why We Want Him
The asking price is going to be high for Brodie. He’s a second pairing guy, and the Flames are out a first rounder and second rounder for this year due to the Travis Hamonic trade anyway so you can assume they’re going to at the very least want some picks back.

Also, some feel that he’s declining because Brodie and Hamonic haven’t meshed well together. It’d be a little bit of a risk for Garth to take a chance on a guy who some believe has seen better days.

The Flames are also in a similar boat to the Islanders in the playoff picture. They may be looking to add pieces rather than sell some off instead.
