New York Islanders Trade Deadline Deals They Could Have Done

Darcy Kuemper | Los Angeles Kings
Darcy Kuemper was an appealing and interesting Goalie. He was having a stellar year with the Kings before he was traded away. Let’s take a look at some numbers.
He had a .932 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average. Nine of his 15 starts were considered quality starts giving him a .600 quality start percentage.
According to Corsica, he has the fourth best high danger zone save percentage in the league stopping 87.18 percent of those shots.
With Thomas Greiss injured and heavily struggling wouldn’t it make sense to bring in Kuemper who is a more effective and cheaper option?
The L.A. Kings were able to get Tobias Rieder and Scott Wedgewood in return for Keumper. It didn’t take much of a package to get the deal done.
Rieder has just 20 points this year, and his career high in points is 37 which came just two years ago. He has struggled mightily in the lAs for Wedgewood limited action he’s seen.
In 20 games with Arizona, he was 5-9-4 with a .893 percentage and a 3.45 goals against average. Perhaps if you’re the Islanders, you offer Brock Nelson and Christopher Gibson, and that would’ve been enough to get it done.

At that point, I suppose you waive Greiss and hope someone takes a chance on him. Kuemper and Soderstrom could’ve been the goalie pair going forward.
I like that a lot better than two more years of Thomas Greiss at this cap number.
