The New York Islanders fell in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 3-2. Here’s what went down in today’s action.

The New York Islanders headed into Pittsburgh with five losses in a row. The team was looking to get back into the win column for the first time this month and after a game, they played less than 24 hours earlier.

Brandon Davidson netted his fourth of the year, and first with the Islanders to get the scoring going. It wasn’t pretty but it was effective.

Jarry looked like he either got his skate caught on the play or somehow was caught off-guard by the shot:

The Islanders were lucky to escape the first with a one-goal lead. Pittsburgh had 19 shots on net compared to the Islanders having just eight. Chris Gibson’s luck ran out in the second period when Patric Hornqvist finally got Pittsburgh on the board.

Gibson was able to hold the Pens goalless for 38:04 of the game though, which is an accomplishment in itself.

Anders Lee would put the Isles back in front in period number three. At the 4:59 Lee was able to redirect this one home for his 31st of the year.

At the 11:29 mark of the third period Derick Brassard netted his 19th of the season. The score would remain tied at two through the end of the third period.

The overtime period was an entertaining one, the Islanders even saw a power play opportunity that they weren’t able to capitalize on. Unfortunately, Sidney Crosby spoiled a gem of a game from Chris Gibson as he scored to end it.

Gibson stopped 47 of 50 shots faced, a .940 save percentage but the Isles were unable to generate much offense. They only had 27 shots on goal, 24 of which came in regulation. The Isles are back in action on Monday.
