Ryan Pulock’s Numbers
Remember the Islanders 2017-18 training camp? Remember how Ryan Pulock was being outplayed by Devon Toews. So much so that we thought Toews might take Pulock’s spot in the lineup.
Sure enough, it didn’t actually materialize. Ryan Pulock, after dominating the AHL the season prior got his chance in the NHL. Finally.
But Pulock stumbled out of the gates. Not only was he not putting up the points we thought he could, but he’s often a defensive liability. Pinching when he shouldn’t. Making bad up ice passes. And giving away the puck at untimely times.
We thought that maybe Pulock just wasn’t going to turn into that NHL caliber defenseman we all wanted him to be.
And then, quietly, it turns out that Ryan Pulock now tied for the lead in goals amongst rookie defensemen and is ranked fourth in points for rookie D. That’s right fourth in rookie scoring for defensemen with 29 points.
Looks like the pending restricted free agent is peeking at the right time. Just in time for a new deal.
Pulock should be the New York Islanders number three defenseman next season based on his play this year. And it came from nowhere this season.
