New York Islanders prospect Ilya Sorokin is in the KHL Finals at the moment for team CSKA. He helped pull them within a game in the series.
Ilya Sorokin has been one of the New York Islanders more hyped prospects over the past few years. It’s certainly understandable as he’s put up video game-like numbers in the KHL over the last three years.
In 2015-2016 Sorokin had a .953 save percentage and 1.06 goals against average. That’s nuts! This year he rocked a .934 save percentage and a 1.51 goals against average.
Right now he has his team in the KHL Finals. With a 3-2 overtime victory yesterday his team is now trailing in the series 2-1. Ironically, he didn’t have his best game in Game 3 despite winning the game.
He stopped 17 of 19 shots giving him a .895 save percentage. Through 17 playoff games this year Sorokin has a 10-5 record a .931 save percentage and also a 1.49 goals against average.
He’s dominated at the KHL level for years now, the question is if the former 2014 draft pick will ever make it over to the NHL. At this point, there’s no way to know for sure but it seems unlikely he’ll come anytime soon.
For now, we’ll just cross our fingers and have fun looking at box scores.
