New York Islanders need a starting goalie that can be at the very least an average NHL shot-stopper. But where are they going to get one? Last I checked they don’t grow on trees.

This week I proposed five options as upgrades in the blue paint for the New York Islanders. Five options that could start for the Islanders in 2018-19 and that could provide better goaltending then the Isles were getting in 2017-18.

With Halak out and certainly not to return next season. The Islanders don’t have a defacto number one starter. If anything they have two to four backup options between Thomas Greiss, Christopher Gibson, Kristers Gudlevskis, and Linus Soderstrom.

Matt and I discuss those options on the pod. Which ones could work? Which ones the Isles should sign. And which ones they should stay well away from.

What Else Do We Discuss?

Goalies dominated our conversation, but we didn’t just focus on the padded wonders of the NHL. We had other, pressing matter to talk about:

Pressing matters like what a Garth Snow Twitter burner account might tweet out? Bryan Colangelo had (allegedly) five burner accounts going, what if the New York Islanders General Manager had a few? What would they tweet out?

Should the New York Islanders trade Josh Ho-Sang? No. The answer is no. But. What if the relationship between player and team is so fractured, where do you send him and for what?

What if Rick DiPietro didn’t get hurt? How would that have altered (or not) the Islanders franchise? Would they have been better off, worse off, or largely in the same position they are today?

Are we seriously thinking about adding a 35-year-old winger to our dynamic and already set top six? Ilya Kovalchuk isn’t a good fit for the Islanders. Move on.
