New York Islanders: 5 Potential Coaching Candidates

Scott Stevens
Scott Stevens is also a name that everyone is connecting to the New York Islanders which makes a lot of sense due to Lamoriello’s past. From 1982 through the 2004 season, Stevens was manning the blue line in the NHL.
He spent 13 years with the Devils winning three Stanley Cups along the way. His time on the ice didn’t mean the end of Stevens with the Devils.
From 2012-2013 to 2014-2015, Stevens served as an assistant coach with New Jersey. The team did not make the playoffs over that time. Then, in 2016-2017, Stevens was an assistant coach for Minnesota before resigning to spend time with family after the season.
One thing is for sure, he could help the Islanders become more defensive minded. The biggest flaw with the team last year was the lack of defense. Hiring a guy like Stevens, in theory, should help with that.
The 54-year-old is a hall of fame defenseman is expected to have a role under Lamoriello. Why not behind the bench?
