LAS VEGAS, NV – MAY 30: Colin Miller #6 of the Vegas Golden Knights skates against the Washington Capitals in Game Two of the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on May 30, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) /

Vegas Golden Knights

The team that just went on a surprising run in their first year in existence is without a first-round pick. Vegas is stocked up on late round picks they have two picks in rounds four through six but only one pick in the first three rounds and that’s in round two.

The Golden Knights have six UFA’s and five RFA’s this offseason, and yes they have a ton of cap room at the moment but even so, they aren’t going to be able to sign everyone. That’s why it might make sense for them to move an RFA especially if it can yield them a first-round pick.

I’m thinking maybe someone like Colin Miller would be a nice addition to the Islanders defensive core. Miller is a right-handed shot who put up an impressive 41 points on the third pair. In addition to that, he had outstanding Corsi numbers with a 56.3 CF percentage.

On the Islanders, Miller would easily be a top-four guy and could be the replacement for Calvin de Haan who many expect is leaving in free agency. Miller is 25-years-old and had a very reasonable cap hit at just $1 million last year.

Maybe the Isles can lock him up for something like a five-year $4-$4.5 million AAV contract extension. That could be great value, especially if his game continues to develop with more playing time.
