(13) Butch Goring

As a player, Butch Goring was beloved by the fans. He helped put the Islanders over the top and won four Stanley Cups with the team. As a coach, he wasn’t very good and only lasted a short time with the Islanders.

He coached all 82 games in the 1999-2000 season, and his team went 24-48-9-1 for only 58 points. He had a .354 points percentage that year which was pretty atrocious by league standards at the time.

He followed that up with 42 points in 65 games before he was let go. He was replaced familiar face Lorne Henning who actually coached the team in the mid 90’s also. Now Butch is behind the mic where he belongs.

(14) Mike Milbury

I wish I could put Mike Milbury last on this list, it just couldn’t be justified because of how bad the 1972-1973 team was. Milbury comes right after them because he’s the main reason for the Islanders ineptitude over the last quarter century.

In 1995-1996 he was named the coach and coached all 82 games. The team had a .329 points percentage which really isn’t very good. In 1996-1997 Milbury named Rick Bowness, the coach after his team got off to an awful start with a .389 points percentage.

Bowness finished the season and even began coaching the next year as well before Milbury pulled the plug and put himself behind the bench again. This is only the surface of the insanity that is Mike Milbury.
