3. Jesperi Kotkaniemi

Hockey analysts everywhere rave about Kotkaniemi’s hockey IQ. He’s described as a “smart forward with a dangerous shot.” he’s risen up draft boards recently and many believe he will go third overall to Montreal.

Even though Jesperi didn’t have the most productive season in terms of points, it’s interesting to point out he was playing at the pro level in Liiga. He had 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 57 games.

When playing at juniors he shined putting up a combined 17 points in 16 games.

Some may describe this pick as a reach, but Montreal would be getting a player with high upside.

4.Filip Zadina

Filip Zadina adjusted well to the North American style of play. In his first year in the Q, he put up 82 points (44 goals, 38 assists). He was even better in the World Juniors.

In seven games, he had eight points (7 goals, 1 assist) playing for the Czech Republic. Standing out on the Junior stage is important in the draft process.

He’s a dynamic offensive forward that can play a complete game. He has comparable puck-skills to any current star in the league, which is a great sign for Ottawa.

Even though he’s more of an offensive-minded player, Zadina can hold his own in the defensive end as well. The Senators lands a well-rounded prospect fourth overall, that many expected to go in the top three.
