New York Islanders 2018 NHL Mock Draft with Trade 3.0

9.Noah Dobson
Do the New York Rangers have to make a pick in the first round? Is that necessary?
Apparently, it is. So we have the Rangers taking 6’3” point-per-game defender Noah Dobson. In 67 games with the Acadie-Bathurst Titans of the QMJHL, Dobson has 69 points. Dobson’s a big bodied scoring defenseman, and he’s joining our bitter rivals? Great.
Keep in mind that Dobson is only 18-years-old. Thankfully, we don’t likely have to worry about Dobson for a few years as he evolves into an NHL caliber defenseman in the AHL. But when Dobson eventually gets to the NHL he’s going to be fantastic. Think Ryan Pulock good, just a bit bigger.
I hate saying it, but Noah Dobson is a great prospect for a rebuilding Rangers franchise.
10.Adam Boqvist
The Edmonton Oilers might not be able to get Erik Karlsson from the Ottawa Senators, but maybe they can draft the next Erik Karlsson. Meet Adam Boqvist.
He’s a 5’11” 170lbs Swedish defender playing for Bryans’ junior side. In 2017-18 he put up 30 points in 26 games and added another 12 points with the under-17 Swedish national team.
The knock against Boqvist is his defensive play. His offensive skills aren’t in question at all, but being able to defend a blueline is. But at 17-years-old that’s to be expected. The defensive side of the game can be tough, the offense side can’t be tough.
Edmonton might get their defenseman after all but they might have to wait a bit for him.
