The New York Islanders may have some competition for Barry Trotz. Two more teams are kicking the tires on the available head coach.

There’s only one team left without a head coach, the New York Islanders, so it seems like Barry Trotz to the Islanders is a lock right? Not so fast says, John Shannon of Sportsnet. According to Shannon, there are two more teams interested in Trotz.

Some believed that Trotz would take some time off and hold out for the Seattle job, but I don’t think that’s what we’re talking about here. What Shannon is saying is two teams with a head coach in place are looking at Trotz as a replacement.

We don’t get the details on who the other two teams might be, but you can certainly take educated guesses as to who they are. Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Edmonton could be candidates to be interested.

Still, the only definite is the Islanders job. They’re the clear favorites, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an official Trotz announcement in the coming days.

Lou Lamoriello has already flipped this organization upside down and shaken all the dead weight out of here. If he lands the Stanley Cup-winning coach for the Islanders it’ll be hard for Tavares to justify signing anywhere else.
