With the 12th overall pick int he 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders selected Noah Dobson from the Acadie-Bathurst Titans.

Pinch me I must be dreaming. The New York Islanders selected Noah Dobson at number 12. This is a player that was supposed to be drafted seventh overall. And he was there for the taking at 12 and the Islanders didn’t blink.

At 6’3″ 176lbs the Islanders picked up a big, mobile defenseman that buries the puck int he net. In 67 games with the Acadie-Bathurst Titans of the QMJHL, Dobson has 69 points.

This kid immediately jumps up the Islanders defensive depth chart, and he hasn’t played a single game for the Islanders yet.

What Does He Bring

Dobson brings everything to the table. Yes, he puts up points, but the kid isn’t an offense only player. He gets the job done defensively as well.

Which is exactly why the New York Islanders took him. There isn’t a weakness in his game. sure, he might be a bit light at 176lbs but he’s only 18-years-old. He’s going to fill up by the time he hits the NHL.

We all wanted the Islanders to trade either one or both picks for help immediately and instead, the Islanders drafted two players. But that’s what happens when players like Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Barrett Hayton make massive jumps up the draft order and move into the top five.

The New York Islanders weren’t supposed to be able to pick Noah Dobson or even Oliver Wahlstrom at picks eleven and 12. So when they came up Lou Lamoriello had to take them.

Next: Isles Take Oliver Wahlstrom at 11

That means players who were meant to go earlier are sitting there waiting during the later picks. So thank you Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes for going off the board at the draft.
