Extensions

Now that the Islanders have acquired the pieces they need, they need to extend some of them to ensure they’ll be here beyond 2018-2019.

Extension 1: Matt Duchene 8 years $60 million ($7.5 million AAV)

Matt Duchene will replace Barzal on the second line as Barzy moves up to line one. Duchene is someone the Isles really wanted just two years ago and now he can serve as a nice asset down the middle for the Islanders.

We already talked about his point production but he’s also a stud faceoff guy. Last year he won 52.3 percent of the faceoffs and over the course of his career, he’s a 52.8 percent faceoff guy.

Extension 2: Anders Lee 7 years $49 million ($7 million AAV)

Extend Anders Lee and make him the captain. That’s got to be a move for the Islanders this year. He’s become one of the best goal scorers in the league and eclipsed the 40 mark for the first time in his career this past year.

He should be a staple on the top line with Mathew Barzal for years to come, and boy that would be a nice toy to have for Barzal who gets used to his role as “The Guy”.
