New York Islanders’ free-agent acquisition Leo Komarov had a weird prediction for his former team now that they have John Tavares.

One of the many depth forwards the New York Islanders added this summer, Leo Komarov, had something very strange to say yesterday about his former team. Leo spent the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

For obvious reasons, the Islanders and Maple Leafs have a new hatred for each other. That memo hasn’t reached Leo Komarov though who dropped one of the strangest quotes I’ve seen in a while.

"“I’m sure the Maple Leafs are able to win the Stanley Cup with Tavares without any problems”"

The Maple Leafs are certainly the cup favorites but for a player on another team to come out and say that is just weird. I don’t care that he spent the last 12 years in the Maple Leafs system, you’re on a new team now.

He can wish them luck and be as classy as possible but he doesn’t have to essentially guarantee them winning a cup. Mark Messier, Broadway Joe Namath and many others have guaranteed victories in championships before, but this might be the first time a player on another team guarantees one for a team he isn’t playing for.

This kind of quote certainly starts Leo Komarov off on the wrong foot here in New York
