New York Islanders Top 10 Prospects In the System in 2018

Josh Ho-Sang
*Sigh*
That probably sums up the Josh Ho-Sang situation best “sigh”. Josh Ho-sang shouldn’t be on this list. He should already be in the NHL at this point.
Technically he isn’t’ even a prospect anymore. He isn’t even a rookie in the eyes of the NHL. But he’s on this list because he still sits and waits for his chance to show the NHL what he’s got.
We’ve seen glimpses. In 43 NHL games between 2016-17 and 2017-18 Ho-Sang has 22 points. That’s scoring at a .51 point-per-game pace. Over the course of a full NHL season that’s 42 points.
Sure, Ho-Sang has faults in his game. Name a player that doesn’t. Ho-Sang particular is that his defensive play could use some work. With 43 giveaways in 43 games played only John Tavares and Mathew Barzal have equally high giveaways per game rate.
At a 42 point per season pace, Ho-Sang isn’t as productive as Barzal or Tavares. Maybe he could, but because of that giveaway rate he isn’t’ given the chance and cast back to the AHL.
His prior infractions might have something to do with this. For those that aren’t aware, those infractions consist of: a confidence that isn’t regularly seen in the NHL and a history of doing the wrong thing (like being late to the first day of Isles training camp in 2015).
Josh Ho-Sang is immensely talented. He’s absolutely electric with the puck on his stick. He belongs in the NHL. Sadly it hasn’t yet materialized. But his chance has to come soon.
