New York Islanders: 5 Choices For The Next Captain

Anders Lee
Since his full-time arrival in 2014-2015, Anders Lee has been a big part of what the Islanders do offensively. Over the past four years, since he started playing regularly, he’s scored 25 or more goals in three of the four years and is coming off his best season to date.
Lee is a good one both on and off the ice. On the ice, he’s a big player who isn’t afraid to use his size. He goes down low and reeks havoc on the opposing netminders on a consistent basis. Despite his size and physicality, Lee isn’t a dirty player, he had just 44 minutes in the penalty box last year.
Off the ice, he’s even better. Lee raises money for pediatric cancer with his annual Kancer Jam tournament. That’s the kind of qualities that you want from your captain.
Lee has been one of the more productive goal scorers in the league over the last two years. He’s combined for 74 goals over that span which puts him only behind Alex Ovechkin, Patrik Laine, Nikita Kucherov, and Evgeni Malkin.
If he extends with the Islanders he seems like a quality choice for captain. He’s been with the Isles since they drafted him in 2009, he would be a fine choice to wear the “C”.
