New York Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier joined the NHL network over the weekend and he spoke about his friendship with Mathew Barzal.
During an otherwise lost season, Anthony Beauvillier’s emergence with the New York Islanders was one of the better storylines last year. After a brief stint in the AHL, midway through the season, Beau came back and had a strong second half.
Playing with Mathew Barzal on the left wing, Anthony Beauvillier finished with 36 points (21 goals, 15 assists) in 71 games.
On Friday, Beau called into the NHL Network and spoke a little about his play last year, his summer, charity work and even his bond with Mathew Barzal. He and Mathew Barzal were both first rounders from 2015 and have been close ever since.
Well, they played together before joining the Islanders, but they’ve been especially close since joining the team. They’re roommates on the road, and they hang out off the ice a lot as Beau cites going to the mall with Barzy.
On the ice, they’ve developed a good chemistry with Jordan Eberle on the other side as well. The Isles second line from last year was one of the more dominant ones around the league. It might just be in their best interest to have the Isles second line from last year be the first line this year and bump Anders Lee and Josh Bailey down to the second line.
Beau had a bit of a breakout year in 2017-2018 with 21 goals and 36 points, but expect him to be even more productive over the course of a full 82 game season and obvious development.
