BUFFALO, NY – JUNE 24: Kieffer Bellows poses for a portrait after being selected 19th overall by the New York Islanders in round one during the 2016 NHL Draft on June 24, 2016 in Buffalo, New York. (Photo by Jeffrey T. Barnes/Getty Images) /

Kieffer Bellows

Unlike Wahlstrom and Dobson, Kieffer Bellows is ready now. Bellows’ goal was always to make the NHL by 2019. And he could very well make good on that.

Last season Bellows was going to continue playing int he NCAA with Boston University. But before the NCAA season started he changed his mind and instead opted to join the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

The idea behind the move was to give himself more playing time in order to give himself a better chance at making the NHL. More games equaled a greater opportunity to not only showcase himself more, but to get better in the process.

And that’s what he did.

In 56 games for the Portland Winterhawks Bellows scored 41 goals and 33 assists for 74 points. That goal scoring rate equals a goal every 0.73 games.

At the NHL level Bellows could become a top level scoring winger for the team, not in years to come, but as early as 2018-19. For a team that’s looking to retool and get to winning ways, moving top level prospects ready today isn’t an option.

If a call comes in for a trade, these four players should never be discussed. Lou should just hangup the phone and move on with his day. What they would lose by trading these players couldn’t be gained by whatever is coming back to the Isles.

Unless its McDavid.
