Group C -Devon Toews

I love how seriously the team is looking at 2014 fourth-round pick Devon Toews. There’s no reason that he shouldn’t be the team’s seventh defensemen. But I get it. The team has to perform their due diligence and see if he’s ready for the jump to the NHL.

Paring him with Mayfield is a good fit. As Toews takes the puck into the offensive zone, Mayfield is there to cover for him.

Again, I know that these groups don’t necessarily mean anything. but they do mean something. They aren’t randomly generated after all. Seeing Kieffer Bellows paired with Scott Eansor and Ross Johnston doesn’t fill me with any confidence that he has a spot this season.

They’ll see if Bellows can play defensively and perhaps bump him up from there if they want to see more. But as it stands I’m 100 percent convinced he plays in the AHL for the season.

Five Worst Player Personnel Decisions Ever. Next

I’m excited to be talking about the regular season. I know most of the pundits around the league aren’t too high on the New York Islanders. I’m simply excited to see what might happen. Can they gel as a group and rally around a single narrative to prove everyone wrong, or will the lack of top-tier quality sink this team like everyone is predicting?
