Devon Toews

Current odds: 80%
The competition for the New York Islanders seventh defensemen seems to be between three players: Dennis Seidenberg, Luca Sbisa, and Devon Toews.

Seidenberg seems very well out of contention. It’s clear that the now 36-year-olds better playing days are behind him. Sbisa got a good look versus the Devils and wasn’t particularly impressive. Leaving Devon Toews, a 24-year-old growing with confidence every time he hits the ice.

How Does He Make It?

Just keep doing what you’re doing. Toews is looking solid moving the puck out of the zone. He’s helping that with some smart play and adding production.

Toews’s competition right now is Dennis Seidenberg and Luca Sbisa. Neither NHL vet is a favorite for the position. Their age is clear in their play. Toews on the other hand, has youth and speed, the two prime qualities in today’s NHL.

How He Doesn’t Make It?

Luca Sbisa has to have an outstanding camp. Dennis Seidenberg won’t factor in the decision. The 37-year-old German seems out of his element in camp. He’s last to pucks, giving it away too easily and simply looking his age.
