It was the New York Islanders fifth game of the preseason, and the fourth time they play the Philadelphia Flyer. Who or what stood out or didn’t?

The number of preseason games remaining on the New York Islanders schedule is shrinking. They’ve played five and only have three left to go. Meaning there are few games left for some to impress and get a spot on the roster.

With the Bridgeport Sound Tigers ready to open their training camp on Monday, you know that cuts are coming.

The Islanders have to trim their roster down from 68 players to 23 by the start of the season. Cuts have yet to happen, but they will, and soon. Adding pressure to some who hope they can take a spot on the Islanders team this season.

Now is the time for some of these players to impress.

Players like Jan Kovar. The KHL import could find his way to the AHL at the start of 2018-19. The Isles seems content on playing Brock Nelson as the second line center to start the season. Being waiver exempt the Isles could easily send the Czech player to the AHL.

He isn’t the only one hoping to get a spot by impressing Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz. So what are some of the biggest takeaways from the Islanders fifth preseason game?
