Through two games New York Islanders prospect, Michael Dal Colle is leading the Sound Tigers in points getting off to a hot start.

Michael Dal Colle has spent most of the last few years as the New York Islanders punching bag. He was selected fifth overall in 2014 and hasn’t lived up to top-five pick expectations what so ever.

In his first year in the AHL, in 2016-2017 he put up 41 points in 75 games, which is okay. He wasn’t dominant, he was fairly average. He followed that up with a 24 point performance last year and an NHL call-up that left us wanting more.

But with four points in two games, is Michael Dal Colle finally coming around? I’ll say pump the breaks on that for a second.

The sample size isn’t big enough yet. If he’s still at over a point per game through 20 games then I’ll have that conversation. At the same time, four years after being drafted he should be dominating at the AHL level.

Like, isn’t that a low bar to set? Are we really supposed to be excited that a 22-year-old who was a premier pick is dominating at the AHL level? I’m certainly not getting juiced up about it.
