The New York Islanders community is still morning the surprise loss of former majority owner Charles Wang. The Isles will pay homage to their owner with a patch for the 2018-19 season.
The New York Islanders community received some sad news this week, with the passing of former majority owner Charles Wang. The passing of the man that was responsible for keeping this team on Long Island has marked many who knew him.
Everyone who were lucky enough to know him or meet him talks about a man who approached life his way and with a great smile on his face.
His impact for on the New York Islanders can’t be missed. Without Wang the New York Islanders wouldn’t be the New York Islanders. For that the Isles will wear a “CBW” path on their jerseys for the remainder of the season.
Again, it needs to be said as often as possible. The team owes its continued existence on Long Island to Charles Wang. Without his stewardship as majority owner they would definitely be in another market.
The “CBW” on the front of the jersey is great praise for an owner who quite literally put his money where his mouth is. Year-over-year Wang lost millions to keep this team on the Island.
Unfortunately, he won’t be able to see the Islanders actually play a game at Belmont. But he was instrumental in making that happen.
The badge is a great nod to a mad who had an immense impact not only on the New York Islanders but on the game of hockey and the Long Island community as a whole.
