Keys to the Game

Keep Doing What You’re Doing

At the moment there’s seemingly only one flaw with the New York Islanders game; they let up a ton of shots. The Islanders have the sixth highest shots against per game with 33.8 in the NHL.

But that doesn’t seem to matter. Over this four-game winning streak, the Islanders have been outshot every single time. They shot differential in that period is an appalling -38. But again, they’ve won every single one of those games.

Should the shot differential be lower? Yes. But that doesn’t seem to factor too much into the New York Islanders strategy. The Isles just need to keep doing what they’re doing.

Get At Them Early

The Islanders haven’t always come out in the first period firing on all cylinders. That hasn’t become a huge issue for the Islanders yet, but it could and will if they keep coming out of the gate flat-footed.

Having a good strong first period will build the foundation the Isles can take into the later periods that they seem to value more.
