New York Islanders Five Destinations For Nick Leddy

Toronto Maple Leafs
Why They Could Use Him?
With Auston Mathews, John Tavares, and Nazem Kadri, the Toronto Maple Leafs have one of the strongest spines in the league. It’s resulted in one of the better offenses in the NHL at the moment. One of the Leafs deficiencies is linking up the defense with the offense.
The Leafs need another puck carrier from the back. Nick Leddy has that ability, though he isn’t necessarily showing it right now with the Islanders. Maybe playing for a cup contender brings that back out of Nick Leddy.
I know that a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs might not sit well with most Islanders fans, and that’s fair. But if the Islanders can extract what they want from the Maple Leafs it will be worth it.
What Isles Would Want
Any trade discussions with the Maple Leafs for Nick Leddy has to start with William Nylander. The currently out of contract center is exactly the type of player that the New York Islanders could use behind Mathew Barzal. He’s young, talented, dynamic, and puts up points.
I used to think a one-for-one trade would have been enough, but the more Leddy’s play seems to drop off the less that makes sense.
The Islanders might have to send a bit more Toronto’s way, or start negotiating prospects to make it work. But if ultimately Nylander is extracted for Leddy, that’s a win.
