The future continues to look bright for the New York Islanders as the kids in the system continue to impress.
While the New York Islanders are busy impressing everyone in the NHL with their play. The kids in the Islanders system continue to impress Islanders fans.
While some of the New York Islanders big prospects (Oliver Wahlstrom, Noah Dobson, and Kieffer Bellows) are producing well for their respective teams, it’s a number of other players in the system that are making noise.
Wahlstrom, Dobson, and Bellows were all first-round draft picks. You expect them to excel at any level below the NHL. And that’s exactly what they’re doing. But what about sixth-round picks?
Sixth-rounders are still good hockey players, but their immediate destiny isn’t the NHL like it is for first-rounders. Guys selected in the sixth round represent players with talent but could use a little more to get to a higher level.
For the Isles, both Collin Adams in the NCAA and Arnaud Durandeau in the QMJHL are sixth-round picks that are showing some promise. Again, the NHL isn’t immediate for either, but if they can keep it up the Isles will have found some incredible value.
