New York Islanders Mathew Barzal Scores 100th Point

It only took 101 games for New York Islanders Calder winning center Mathew Barzal to score his 100th point in the NHL.
New York Islanders Mathew Barzal has scored 100 points and it only took him 101 games to do so. We all hoped he could be the second played to hit 100 in 100 games over the last decade, but Barzal fell just a game short.
Connor McDavid is the only player this decade to hit 100 in 100. McDavid actually earned his 100th point in his 92nd game.
So Barzal didn’t hit 100 in 100. It doesn’t matter Barzal is still one of the better players the New York Islanders have had in a long time.
Pure Skill
Barzal’s 100th point came off of Josh Bailey’s sixth goal and 18th point so far this NHL season.
Before getting an assist in the Islanders 4-2 loss against the Florida Panthers Barzal was going through an uncharacteristic dry spell.
Over a four game stretch Barzal didn’t register a single point. Since making his NHL debut during the 2017-18 season Barzal’s longest point drought was his first five games.
Even though Barzal was going through a rough patch there was no question he’d pull through. As the saying goes, form is temporary but class is permanent.
Barzal won’t be joining McDavid in the 100 in 100 club, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t actually matter. We know that Mathew Barzal is one of the top players in the NHL.
He’s got the speed, vision, and creativity that the modern NHL demands. Barzal combines all three on this single play to generate another scoring opportunity for Josh Bailey later in the game versus the Canucks.
