The New York Islanders and New York Rangers are set to square off tonight for the first time this season. The Islanders will look to continue their recent show of dominance against their crosstown rivals.

Both the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers are off to surprisingly good starts this season. Though it’s still early in the season, the Isles and Rangers sit in the second and third spot in the division with 20 points.

Last season the Islanders swept the season series against the Rangers, outscoring the Blue Shirts 16-6 in the four games. In fact, the Islanders haven’t lost the season series since the 2013-2014 season.

Over the offseason, the Islanders did lose one of their most successful players against the Rangers. Goaltender

Jaroslav Halak

was in net for all four games last season.

The Islanders sit at 9-6-2 after Tuesday night’s win against the Vancouver Canucks. They have been led by

Josh Bailey

who is continuing to get better and better. Bailey leads the Islanders this season with 18 points.

Early Divisional Success

The Islanders are 6-0-0 against Metropolitan opponents this season. The Rangers are also on a tear recently. In their last ten games, the Rangers have played to a 7-2-1 record.

Going into tonight’s game there are a lot of positives on the Isles side. Outside of their success against the Rangers and divisional opponents, the Isles are 4-1-2 at home this season.

The New York Islanders are 7-1-0 against the Rangers the past two seasons. Tonight’s bout will kick off the 2018-19 season series against the Blue Shirts.
