What I Need to Happen

The New York Islanders need to parlay Jordan Eberle into a better top six player. They don’t need a ton of picks and prospects. The draft pick portion of the Lou Lamoriello retool isn’t required.

Look at the New York Islanders farm system. Josh Ho-Sang, Kieffer Bellows and Oliver Wahlstrom have serious desires to make the NHL in 2019-2020. And they have a few more big names down further in the pecking order.

Losing Jordan Eberle means that the Islanders will have an empty spot on the right wing in their top six. The right is already arguably the weakest position on the roster.

The Islanders need to take maybe one of their good prospects along with Jordan Eberle and land themselves a bigger name player. A player that will net them close to a point-per-game during the regular season.

Obviously easier said than done. But that’s what I need to happen. I need the Islanders to take some of the assets they already have (and are set to lose) and get an upgrade on them. None of this letting them go for nothing nonsense.

Getting picks would be nice, but those are assets that will potentially be good two years or more down the road. The New York Islanders need to bolster their squad with talent now.

Waiting to the trade deadline might only get the Isles picks and prospects, playoffs team don’t part with good roster players. A trade might have to happen sooner rather than later if the Isles are to pick up anyone that’s better than Jordan Eberle.
