Lou Lamoriello | Apology Letter

Since the summer there’ve been a number of comments writing off the New York Islanders chances at being successful in 2018-19. The guy who wore the pajamas left and in came in a tidal wave of third and fourth liners.

How could the New York Islanders possibly succeed with Valtteri Filppula and Leo Komarov?

Through 35 games the Filppula has 18 points putting him pace for 42 points and revamping the Islanders third line. With Filppula putting up points the Islanders have three lines that can score. They didn’t have that last year and the only element to leave was Tavares.

Sure, the Islanders lost elite level talent and didn’t replace it on the ice at least. But by acquiring Barry Trotz, Lou Lamoriello got elite level talent behind the bench. And his impact touches everyone.

Brock Nelson is a totally different player under Barry Trotz, his 23 points in 35 games has him on pace for 54 by seasons end. Not to mention Brock is scoring at a more consistent rate and is implicated in almost every play.

The same goes for Nick Leddy. While he isn’t putting up points like Brock, Leddy’s defensive play is greatly improved from what it was in 2017-18. And with another 47 games to go in the 2018-19 season, there’s plenty of time for Leddy to put up points.

Lou’s plan is working. Through 35 games the New York Islanders are two points out of third in the Metropolitan Division with a game in hand. We were wrong and the letter will show that.
