New York Islanders goalie, Robin Lehner revealed a new mask. Not only is it appealing to the eye but it also has deep meaning behind it.
It’s been a resurging year for Robin Lehner and the New York Islanders. In 21 games, Lehner has a .927 save percentage and a 2.18 goals against average he leads the league in both categories for goalies who’ve played more than 20 games.
Not only has Lehner turned it around on the ice but off the ice as well. This past September, Robin opened up about his mental health issues in a tell-all with The Athletic. Certainly, it wasn’t something that was easy for him, but the fans really gravitated towards him after that piece came out.
Now, nearly four months after the article came out, Lehner had a new Islanders themed mask design for him to wear and it’s perfect.
The caption goes into detail explaining the meaning behind each part of the mask. The most important part of the mask to both the designer and Robin is the sun towards the top. It’s supposed to represent a new beginning for Lehner.
There’s clearly an emotional connection to the design for both the designer and Robin so it’s that much more interesting. Robin, like Thomas Greiss, decided to include the fisherman logo on it which is seemingly popular amongst the players.
I can’t wait for this to make its debut on the ice and of course, we continue to wish Robin the best of luck and happiness in his mental health journey.
