Using the Rick Nash trade as the example since it happened just last year and features goal-scoring power forwards, let’s see what could be.

Nash fetched a middle six forward, a salary dump forward, a second round NCAA defenseman at a top-level program and a first and a seventh round pick in the upcoming draft.

Since Lee is not a high-priced contract and is 28 years old vs 33 for Nash at the time of the deal, he could fetch another pick instead of a forward with no role to offset salaries.

But do you do it?

No, and it’s because Anders Lee is your captain and not a bargaining chip. But because Anders Lee is such a great player and person, he would probably agree to it if it meant that the Islanders were better for it upon his return this summer.
